INTRODUCTION

I’ve spent the past few years studying, talking and writing about productivity – being productive - because I’m extremely bad at it. It’s been a problem since my late teens, which is to say since I’ve been expected to do real work. My natural tendency is to procrastinate and to delay. I used to fall apart when I worked on anything which involved conflicting priorities and parallel demands on my attention. And the less said about my time-management skills, the better. I was a mess. Compounding it all was a long period of mental illness which made it very difficult to react appropriately to the world around me.

Left without the support systems I’ve built, I’m probably a lot less productive than you’ll ever be.
