The rules of negotiation

Now that you know how the game is played, who you're playing with, and the obstacles you face as a woman, it's time to cover a few basic rules of negotiation. All of these rules (except the last one) apply to both men and women. Because of the way men are socialized during childhood and adolescence, they tend to intuitively understand and play by these rules. Women, on the other hand, often find the rules foreign and unnatural. Some of them may even seem unfair to you at first. But learning them and embracing them will help you have productive negotiations with members of either sex.
