As mentioned in earlier sections of the book, projection design shares a similarity with lighting in that the system dictates what choices are available to the designer. Unlike lighting, however, very few theatres have a dedicated projection system. This means that the Projection Designer, or someone on their team, must design a unique video system for every show that takes into account the theatre space, scenic design elements, any gear the theatre may have in their inventory, and the needs of the projection design itself. This chapter examines many of the considerations necessary to designing a projection design system.
