Configuring the Encrypted File System
The encrypted file system has been around since Windows 2000. With the initial
release of EFS, users could encrypt files or folders. EFS would best be utilized on
a system not utilizing BitLocker. To encrypt a file, simply right-click on the file,
go to Properties, and select Advanced. Check the box that says Encrypt data
to secure contents, as shown in Figure 4.50. By default, encrypted files and
folders will be displayed with a green color in Windows.
