What you’ll read in this chapter is in no way an exhaustive look at musical theory. Remixers span the gamut of those who have had some formal music training, those who have just picked things up as they go along, and those who have absolutely no musical theory knowledge whatsoever. So rather than get too deeply caught up in the intricacies of music theory and attempt to explain why everything works the way it does, I will instead focus on how we can use the musical “rules” that exist and what they mean to a remixer, explaining some theoretical things along the way as and when required.
