THE WORLD BANK ESTIMATES THAT BY 2025, SIX EMERGING economies alone will account for more than half of all global growth. The World Bank also projects that as a group, emerging economies will on average grow 4.7 percent between 2011 and 2025. Mature economies are forecast to grow by 2.3 percent over the same period—only half as much. We have the slow-growing West and the fast-growing East. The East is catching up. How can we explain this big disparity? Our conclusion is clear.
