Introduction

A scientific field of inquiry is a socially constructed entity, consisting of a community of scholars who share a common identity and language (Kuhn, 1962; Nag, Hambrick and Chen, 2007). The boundaries of a discipline may be more or less fuzzy, but scholars working in that field have a consensual understanding of the domain's essential meaning.The “name” or title is an important signifier of the boundaries of a particular discipline. Asking “What's in a name?” is therefore to inquire about the essential meaning of a scientific field of inquiry.
