Introduction

In this chapter, we begin the discussion with two key drivers of ethics education and complete the discussion with a foray into the literature for insights into ethics within higher education. Although accounting ethics education originated within the profession, its more recent growth has been in formal academic settings. We examine the rise of the multiple groups of stakeholders as users of financial statements and key ethical failures within the profession as contributing factors to the development of ethics education in the classroom.
