RULES FOR
EVERYONE
If you listed all the people you love, I imagine your partner and
your children if you have them would come first and the rest
of your family and your friends would come along afterwards in
some haphazard kind of order. And beyond that are all the people
you barely know, and may not love in the deep passionate way
you do your close family, but who nevertheless you wish well.
And even people you’ve never met but still feel a warmth towards.
I’ve broken down this book into Rules for partners, family and
friends. I said at the start that there would be some overlaps, and
there have been. But I’m still left with a handful of Rules that are
so universal that I just couldn’t squeeze them into one section or
another, so here they are at the end as a kind of conclusion.
These Rules are universal in the sense that they apply to everyone
we encounter and especially those we love. They are also funda-
mental to living a life that is full of love, both towards you and
from you. Master these last four Rules, and you’re really rocking.
