Wait until they ask for advice

Having read the last Rule,* you might be wondering what you’re supposed to do if your child wants your advice. That’s no problem, you can give it to them.

That was a bit easy. Hardly worth a whole Rule, was it? Which is why, as you’ll have noticed, I haven’t left the rest of this page blank. There are two things you need to know about giving advice to your adult kids (and anyone else, come to think of it):

  • Never, ever give them advice unless they ask.
  • Give them only what they ask for.
