Chapter 3

A Higher Perspective

imageIt’s not every day someone tells you that you can find your purpose by planting a seed. It sounded strange to Josh, and he knew it would sound even weirder to his friends. They were already concerned about him, and he didn’t want them to think he was losing it, so Josh decided to not tell his friends about his encounter with the farmer.

They spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying hay rides, carving pumpkins, and relaxing on rocking chairs by the farmhouse. Even Dharma had a great time running around the farm. Hoping to have one last conversation with the old farmer, Josh waited around until all his friends had gone. With the farmer nowhere to be found and only a few hours of daylight left, Josh knew it was time to get back to the city, so he and Dharma headed toward the car. Along the way they passed the pilot and the propeller plane. The line of people was gone, but the smell of gasoline remained.

“You want the last flight of the night?” the pilot asked as Josh passed her. “Perfect time for flying. The sky is clear. The air is crisp. It doesn’t get much better than this.”

“No thanks. We have to get back to the city,” Josh answered as he rubbed Dharma’s head.

“Your dog can come, too,” the pilot responded. “There’s room enough for both of you. And besides, one ride with me and you’ll find what you are looking for.”
