Rosie wanted to be taken more seriously. Her boyfriend’s circle of friends was in the hotel industry, and they would get together frequently to talk shop. They chatted while she sat completely silent, ignored. She told me that she just went blank; nothing would come out. “My brain freezes up when I’m with them. What’s wrong with me?” she asked me.

My mind flitted about various diagnostic possibilities for this situational mutism. I asked Rosie what other situations caused her to freeze up. There were none.

So, this just has to do with discussions about the hotel industry? Yes.
