The Discipline Crucible

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.

Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness

The most difficult battles you'll face are the ones inside your head. All pro football players have amazing physical gifts, but it's the ones who understand the discipline of routine and setting a standard that have the best careers.

Discipline means you don't compromise. It's about sustained emotional intensity, with a decent amount of stubbornness mixed in, creating a focused mindset to give you the best chance of transforming dreams to reality.

Always Keep the Main Thing, the Main Thing

Professional football is filled with distractions. No big revelation there.  That's life, everyone deals with it when you're chasing greatness.

It's how you react to these distractions that determines your success. Just because you're the most talented does not automatically translate to being the most successful. Pro sports of all kinds are filled with stories about guys who let the shiny objects of the big leagues blind them from what got them there in the first place.

That's why the best advice I can give you about discipline is always to keep the main thing, the main thing.

In my case, that applies to football, but more importantly, life.
