EPILOGUE
We have created a form of artificial intelligence (AI) and it is already part of our lives. It may not be what we had been expecting, but it does many of the things that we wanted, and some more, in a different way.
When we think of the intelligence in the intelligent agents that we created, it might be more useful to compare them with some distant and simple animal, such as the snails in our gardens, than to a person. In other words, their way of “thinking” is completely alien to us: they can learn, and some may even plan, but we cannot understand or argue with them, as they are driven only by patterns extracted from superhuman amounts of data, are only interested in pursuing their goal, and are indifferent to much else.
