- When you are torn between two possible solutions.

- When you want to test a possible solution to a problem.

- Pen and paper.
How to use it
Consider your problem and a possible solution. Let us call the solution X. Ask yourself:
- What would happen if I do X?
- What would not happen if I do X?
- What would happen if I do not do X?
- What would not happen if I do not do X?
