Osborn-parnes’ critical problem-solving process

What the tool is

A five- (and sometimes six-) step process for critical problem solving. It was developed in the 1960s by Alex Osborn who founded the Creative Education Foundation (CEF) and Sidney Parnes who succeeded him as president of the CEF. Many creative thinking techniques begin with a divergent stage (in which many ideas are generated) and are followed by a convergent stage (in which a smaller number of ideas is selected to address the initial problem). The Osborn-Parnes process is unusual in that it includes divergent and convergent phases at each step of the process.
