Action learning

What the tool is

Action learning was the brainchild of Professor Reg Revans, the Director of Education for the British National Coal Board. Revans believed that peer groups and team members are the best coaches and facilitators for problem solving, although acknowledged that if a team (a ‘set’ in action learning parlance) lacks the ability to be reflective – a key component of action learning, has difficult team members or needs help with processes or direction, an outside facilitator can assist in the process. Action learning sets help solve problems rather than recommend actions.
