As much of this book concerns the popular portrayal and popular perception of information technology, we have deliberately drawn on popular, rather than scholarly sources wherever possible. We have used newspapers, magazines, radio broadcasts, and, most important, the World Wide Web. Moreover, wherever we could, we have also provided URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) for print material that appears on the Web as well.
In directing readers to these internet sources, we face the problems that every seasoned internet user will recognize. Publishing is a slow, deliberative process.
