Twitter was formed in 2006 from the ashes of Odeo, a podcasting ­platform that included Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Jack Dorsey (Carlson 2011). On March 21, 2006, Jack Dorsey sent out the very first tweet and Twttr (as it was then called) was launched on July 15, 2006. By March 2008, the platform reached 1.3 million registered users and 6 million by the very next month.
