As you drive the interstate highways of the United States and pass from one state to another, you typically are welcomed by a sign announcing L· M. the fact that you are crossing the border into new territory. The sign usually radiates local pride, proclaiming the state’s nickname or its motto, depicting its emblematic animal or flower.
