CHAPTER 8

Asking the Right Questions

Part of the art of white hat thinking is asking the right questions. But how do you know the right questions to ask? Self-help starts with identifying what you don’t know. The trouble is, you don’t always know what you don’t know. Experience teaches, but for the inexperienced, this is where a mentor can be enormously helpful. Failing that, try thinking about what you are likely to meet, and consider the sort of questions that might arise.

For example, imagine that you have opened a successful restaurant or hotel. You then decide you would like to develop a franchised business. Try to think through what steps you would need to take in pursuit of your ambition.
