Hugh Atkinson is principal lecturer in politics and public policy at South Bank University. He lectures in comparative European politics and public policy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His primary research interest is in British sub-national government. He is co-author of Local Government from Thatcher to Blair: the Politics of Creative Autonomy (Polity Press, 2000). He is a former local councillor.
