Chapter 7Creating Your Map

There’s folklore in many cultures of several blind men each touching a different part of an elephant to discover what it is like. Different stories and arguments emerge among the men as they get together to describe the object they felt. The man who felt the tusk reports the object is hard like a stone, while another reports it is soft and flexible after feeling the trunk. While each story is vital, no piece of information on its own projects the sheer majesty and power of the whole elephant. Only when we put them all together can we see the elephant.
