Glossary of Terms

Action: The means by which a given firearm is loaded and made ready to fire, and then fired. This can include how the round or powder and shot get into the chamber, how the primary charge is ignited, and what happens mechanically when you pull the trigger. As a categorical designator this would mean single or double-action, break or pump or bolt action, semiautomatic or revolver, flintlock or matchlock, etc. It can also be more generally inclusive; an actor should be told the action of the prop they’re using, and this means knowing how to load, fire, unload, make safe, and other handling issues. The action (noun) can also refer to the parts of the firearm that enable this action (verb).
