Stop for a moment and think about what comes to mind when you are asked what a goal is. We suspect that you have different responses depending on your frame of mind. In my book, Achieving HR Excellence Through Six Sigma (2nd ed.), I faced the same dilemma when you were asked to define the term excellence. As we stated, the definition of excellence is in the eye of the beholder. We have the same scenario in determining the definition of a goal.
