18.1 Introduction

If you read the works of Jeffrey Liker et al., you will stumble on an ongoing debate. Some will tell you that they don’t do Six Sigma, they only do Lean. Others will tell you the opposite. Peter Pande, in his book The Six Sigma Way, tells us that when looking at process improvement, there is always a better way.

While Lean, Six Sigma, or even Lean Six Sigma, which tries to resolve the debate by merging the two methodologies, do have their benefits, my belief is that there is still another methodology which is the better way for continuous process improvement to occur, and it is found in the TLS Continuum.
