Confidence, Competence, and Trust

Earlier in my book I had noted one author’s definition of trust as “trust equals confidence.” While trust and confidence are interconnected they are not the same and it is very important, especially as a CEO to know the difference. There are many recent examples of individuals who had supreme confidence in themselves that became arrogance. They also were highly competent in their respective industries, becoming well known and well paid. The combination of over-confidence and high competence can breed almost a god-like mindset, they are untouchable and highly untrustworthy.
