Who likes cover letters?
We know very few people who like to write cover letters. And we know very few employers and recruiters who like to read cover letters. Yet a great cover letter is a golden opportunity to create connection between you, the employer or recruiter, and your resume.
Many job seekers would rather go to the dentist for a root canal than write a cover letter. At the very least, they’d rather procrastinate and watch some TV, clean out a closet, or hit Starbucks for a caffeine pick-me-up. They’ve done the hard work of writing their resume; the cover letter seems like an avoidable burden.
