5. Type as Image
Readable type is a conduit for information; expressive type communicates artfully. Adding a simple twist can give words and phrases an emotional power, create an onomatopoeic quality, or evoke an image or an idea. This chapter explores the use of type for expressive purposes, either as an important part of a company’s branding strategy, as a means of creating commercially viable art, or just playing to see what’s possible using type as your medium.
