Why education for life matters

Charles first came across lifelong learning when visiting an Open University summer school in 1974. Its vitality and exuberance illustrated the importance and potential of education for people later in life. Shortly before that, he had taught a couple of Workers Education courses and then maths on a Fresh Horizons course at the City Literary Institute in London, to help enable people who hadn’t done well at school to get university opportunities.
