In its newsletter dated January 12, 2009, the Digital Cinema Society published a list of motion picture and television productions that used digital or HD camera systems during 2008. The numbers are revealing:
• Features, approximately 58
• High-profile TV movies and specials, approximately 26
• 3D (stereoscopic) live-action features, 8
This does not include numerous TV pilots, TV series and sitcoms, digital cameras used for visual effects elements and background plates for several features, or shows that used both film and digital cameras. Among them, these projects used at least eight different digital camera systems from different manufacturers.
Digital film production is here to stay.
