In his book titled Honor Unvarnished: A West Point Graduate’s Memoir of World War II (2003), General Donald V. Bennett, USA Ret., who earlier served as the Academy’s 47th Superintendent, spoke these eloquent words: “It is to the Point that I shall finally return and where I shall rest.… Nearby will be the Chapel, where long ago I heard the words that shaped my life.” Then, General Bennett quoted in full the Cadet Prayer:

O God, our Father, Thou Searcher of human hearts, help us to draw near to Thee in sincerity and truth. May our religion be filled with gladness and may our worship of Thee be natural.
