Java

Java is an object-oriented, secure, platform-independent language created by Sun Microsystems. Currently, its most widespread use is in programming small applications, or applets, for the Web. Its platform-independence makes it very useful because readers access the Web from many different type of computers.

JavaScript

A simple, platform-independent scripting language, developed by Netscape and Sun Microsystems, only loosely related to Java, that adds basic online applications and functions to Webpages. While more limited than Java, it’s generally considered easier to write.
