It was a hot day in Portland, Oregon, and the bar stools in the common area of a half-dead shopping mall felt unusually tall to Julie, who at 5’10” doesn’t typically have this experience. She sat across a small white lacquer table from a normal-looking, clean-cut guy. He seemed a little tired from a long day at work. His name is Brian Kidd. And he is definitely not a zombie.
