Collaboration is an involved process. This book has grown out of twenty years of experience in the Third World. The authors first shared their experiences of the Third World while colleagues in the Department of Geography, University of Wellington, New Zealand, between 1965 and 1968. Our awareness was greatly heightened by the atmosphere created by Keith Buchanan, who was then one of the few English-speaking geographers to have opened new perspectives and sensitivities to the problems of the Third World.
