Alkali Flushing of Preboiler System

Abstract

Deposits inside pipe lines impair heat transfer and also may lead to corrosion. In modern boilers, high purity of condensate and feed water is essential. Alkali flushing of feedwater, condensate, and feedwater heater drip systems of various units is carried out to make these systems free of undesirable elements. A temporary tank is used for dissolving chemicals when alkali flushing. Temporary chemical-circulating pumps are installed for circulation of chemicals. Chemicals are trisodium phosphate (Na3PO4), supplemented with caustic soda (NaOH). Detergent used is “Teepol,” “Lissapol,” or “Dodenol.” Alkali solution is injurious to health; hence, all probable safety measures shall be exercised. ...
