5.0 Introductory Comments

In this chapter, you will be introduced to the thermodynamic properties of materials subjected to several types of external fields: gravitational, centrifugal, surface, radiation, electric, and magnetic fields. The analysis gives rise to several new effects that are of intrinsic interest; they also provide new insights on the systematics of thermodynamic analysis.
