This interactive lecture format is for exploring controversial topics and for dealing with misconceptions and prejudices. Don't even try Shouting Match unless you have the confidence and the competence to pull it off.

Key Feature

Organize participants into three teams and ask them to assume positive, negative, and neutral roles toward a controversial issue. Conduct an informal debate among the opposing teams and add your own comments.

When to Use This Format

Situations where Shouting Match may prove particularly efficacious include, but are not limited to, when:

  • The instructional content is likely to arouse intense feelings.
