Teamwork
From ancient times, people have figured out that the best way to learn something is to teach it to others. Impressive data from recent experimental research on collaborative learning supports this principle.
In a multilevel coaching exercise, you teach different steps in a procedure—or different concepts related to a topic—to different groups of participants. You then reorganize the groups into teams in which at least one person knows each step or concept, and challenge the teams to solve problems collaboratively. In the process of solving problems, team members teach each other and end up mastering all the steps—or concepts. This chapter includes two methods:
