Controlled buckling of thin films on compliant substrates for stretchable electronics

Abstract:
Electronic systems with large stretchability have many applications. This chapter reviews the mechanics of a non-coplanar mesh design whose stretchability can be up to 100%. Mechanics models for non-coplanar mesh designs are developed and used to predict the maximum strains. The models agree well with experiments and give the stretchability of the system in terms of the geometric parameters and fracture strain of the material.
