Chapter 19Finding Co-Authors

Monday morning, Matt went through the usual question-and-answer period with Saul standing at the door to Matt's office: How was your weekend? How is Sabina? As Saul was about to leave and pop his head into the next office, Matt made his move. “Hey, Saul, you have another minute? I wanted to run something by you.”

“For you, of course,” Saul said as he stepped back into the office and took a seat across from Matt. “What's up?”

“I had this random thought. Well, maybe not so random. Remember how I asked you about whether we ever had clients that worked in the outdoor space or something along those lines?”

“Right. I remember.”

“Right. So, I met with this new friend who is the CFO over at the Forest Preserves, and we got to talking.”

Matt tiptoed into the conversation and shared some of what they discussed, slowly revealing he had thought more about his emerging business idea and had begun to make plans.

Saul sat with his hands clasped together, relaxed in the chair, taking in the picture Matt was painting.

Matt kept talking, wondering what Saul might be thinking. Not knowing made Matt nervous, which in turn made him talk faster and in increasing levels of detail.

“This is interesting,” Saul said slowly, when Matt paused.

A read of Saul's facial expression told Matt he was on safe terrain. He relaxed a little.

“It sounds as if you have put a lot of thought into this. Can I ask? Do you have something you can share with me that lays all of this out?”
