Chapter 21Creating Leverage
Matt and Sabina were a few minutes late in arriving. Matt still couldn’t believe almost three years had passed since he co-launched Carney & Schneider. He loved the opportunities to connect with the Third Shift Entrepreneurs, though those opportunities had become less frequent as everyone's lives and professional pursuits had taken flight. The drive out to Eldridge House was about two hours outside the city, beyond the suburbs and into a rural community. They waited a bit to leave so that Ella could take her afternoon nap in the car.
Pulling up to the house, it was in fact, better than Kenneth had described it to be and even far better than the photos on Instagram showed it to be. A wide, set-back driveway passed lush and varied trees throughout the property, with up-lighting across the yard that led to a house with a dramatic black paint job accentuated by white window frames and a set of double doors to welcome you in atop the slate stairs. Originally an old farmhouse, the previous owners had expanded it and built eight additional bedrooms and bathrooms to make the full conversion to a bed and breakfast while preserving the facade. This significant home and estate were unlike anything within miles, which was otherwise a sparsely populated rural area with working farms. Driving for an hour without seeing much of anything and arriving at this majestic retreat property made it all the more exceptional.
