A Job Offer from Steve Jobs
After about five dozen interviews over three months at NeXT (the company founded by Steve Jobs after he left Apple in 1985) Steve Jobs made BJ Gallagher an offer.
Gallagher, a sociologist and author, had been interviewing for the director of executive development job at NeXT. But in the last interview, Jobs offered her the director of recruitment role—a job she knew nothing about.
“I asked him, ‘Why would you hire someone with no experience in this field?’ and he said: ‘I believe in getting good talent on board and we’ll sort it out when we get it here.’”
