LEADERSHIP IS TRANSCENDENCE

The Unity of Two Wills

In this final sutra, Krishna tells Arjuna how the tentative fighter can finally be transformed into a resolute warrior. Whereas the fighter seeks success, the warrior pursues perfection that sustains success. Success is a temporary state, whereas the quest for perfection is timeless. Krishna shows how the threefold paths of leadership—knowledge, action, and devotion—become one in the pursuit of perfection. The journey of perfection is nothing but our evolutionary urge to transcend the limitations of our physical and mental condition. Transcendence is the ultimate goal of such a quest. Transcendence is the merging of personal will with the impersonal will of the cosmic order. That is how a leader like Arjuna moves from the temporal to the timeless. He becomes an instrument of the spontaneous source of all creation: the timeless order and harmony of the universe that guides our thoughts, feelings, and actions. In the path of transcendence the will of the human unites with the will of the divine. The will of Arjuna merges with the will of Krishna. When this happens, victory, success, prosperity, and righteous order are sure to follow.
