Street Markets

If you’re looking for a good mix of people, emotion, color, and activity, a local market is a great place to start. I’m always drawn to local markets because they are often a concentrated mix of what the area is all about. You get to see a lot of locals, as well as the things they buy and sell on a daily or weekly basis.

• Find the “local” markets. Some markets are made specifically for tourists, and while you can find some fun souvenirs at these types of markets, they are going to have fewer opportunities for authentic photographs. The local markets are the ones where not only food is sold, but also where the local people gather. These places are rife with color, characters, and interesting compositions.
