The opportunists
Abstract
This chapter presents as a case study an imaginary university that is responding opportunistically to the current interest in MOOCs. In this case study, the focus is upon institutions that have invested in overseas campuses and that therefore have an active and growing student population outside their home nation. This presents a particular set of opportunities and challenges with regard to online learning, when compared with universities that are mainly focused upon a single campus. This chapter describes how MOOCs are providing a tool, through a Small, Private Open Course to support students, and also university staff, in new ways.
