Banking and Communications

1. Money

The pound sterling is divided into 100 pence (p). Notes come in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. Coins are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

2. Banks

Banks are generally open 9:30am–4:30pm Monday to Friday and most have 24-hour external cash machines (ATMs). You can also find ATMs within some food stores and outside supermarkets.

3. Bureaux de Change

The few independent bureaux de change in Devon and Cornwall are regulated and usually display rates and commission charges. Main post offices change money for no commission. Be sure to compare exchange rates, as these may be unfavourable when commission charges are low.
