The relationship between the TMT and middle managers is in essence a leader-follower relationship. Leadership can be described as an influencing process where leaders influence others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it. Strategic leadership, more specifically, designates leadership at the top of organizations. Researchers have described it as consisting of strategic, relational, and symbolic aspects that take place between leaders, such as the TMT, and immediate followers, such as middle managers.2
