In the Ancient Land of Blame
Everyone knows why I left the US Navy. And most of them understand why I went for a short, planned five-year commission in the Ohio Air National Guard. But I had to ponder long and hard, even after the fact, to establish precisely why I left the Lehman Brothers–owned Neuberger Berman. Especially since Roy was still alive at the time.
By a process of elimination, I did not bail out for money. I was perfectly adequately rewarded for my work. It was nothing to do with location. I grew to love Washington, with its ties to the Navy, and Norfolk and Annapolis, and the great shorelines of Maryland and Virginia.
