Hotel and Motel Security

Abstract

This chapter deals with lodging security. It provides the reader with a series of definitions and major problems in the hotel and motel industry. The chapter also expounds a brief history of lodging security. It then looks at security from the perspectives of the guests and the hotel and its employees. The chapter discusses the differences between a professional security agent working in a hotel and a part-time off-duty police officer. Finally, the chapter dissects a hotel, examining each of its parts, and determines what are the principle security issues of a hotel, from its outside grounds to the “back of the house.”
